About
Following a long and varied professional playing career in London I am now settling into life back in Scotland where I accept private pupils in improvisation, music theory, guitar, banjo and mandolin both face-to-face and nationally and internationally via Zoom and Skype.
I've been a regular guest principal with CBSO on electric, acoustic, nylon guitar and banjo and for 12 years was the resident guitarist in the Olivier Award winning West End production of Wicked playing Electric, Acoustic, 12-string and Banjo. My freelance performance career has ranged from playing twin lead with Brian May, playing for the TV show X-factor to accompanying Renée Flemming on Classical Guitar at the Royal Festival Hall with Opera North. I'm also an endorsee for Patrick James Eggle Guitars and have demonstrated their guitars alongside Patrick at his Meet Your Maker events.
I have worked as a tutor and lecturer at The University of Edinburgh and The University of Highlands and Islands respectively as well as mentoring music students for The University of Nottingham. I am currently working on a PhD at The University of Edinburgh into the use of improvisation as a teaching methodology for music theory and general musicianship.
